Our twins are nearly 3
years old (June 22nd) and they are more amazing
every day. They are so opposite that it's hard to
find ways that they are alike, other than sleeping
in tandem. They are boy/girl twins with Kennedi
being my girl and Kendall my boy.
My story is of one long
night of "yes, love... it's time for bed" and
hearing "I not ready to sleep yet, mommy..." from
Kennedi. Finally as they both drift off to sleep, I
am able to finish a couple of household chores
before I head to bed myself. Kendall is a sound
sleeper and rarely wakes during the night, whereas
Kennedi is a light sleeper and will get up if she
hears anyone else in the house get up (even if just
to go to the bathroom).
This night, I got up to
get a glass of water and I hear those familiar
little footsteps coming down the stairs. Even before
she reaches the bottom I say to her "Kenni, it's
okay. It's mommy getting some water, you want some?"
I get silence... then she burst into tears! I nearly
dropped my glass ... I couldn't imagine what was
wrong!
When I reached the steps,
there she was, sitting with her favorite naked baby
doll clutched to her chest and she said "Mommy, I
lost my Kendall!!"
Again, too much for me to
handle at 3 am, so I run up the steps, taking two
steps at a time and fling open their bedroom door,
frantically looking for Kendall. I didn't see him so
I started calling his name (waking everyone else in
the house in the process).
I have no idea to this day
what made me go back to their room to look, but I
did find him... asleep UNDER Kennedi's bed! They
used to sleep in the same bed as infants, but the
toddler beds are too small for them to sleep in
together - so I assume, to him, that was the closest
he could get to her.
