My
daughters had never been separated until they
started the first grade. It wasn't their first year
of school, as they had attended pre-K the previous
year, but were in the same class. I had requested
they be placed together again when entering first
grade, but they would not allow it.
Pre-K only had one class, so separating was not an
option then. The second day of first grade, I was
talking to the teacher of my youngest, Janet. She
pointed out that Janet had just started crying out
of the blue for her sister.
The
teacher thought if she took Janet and let her peek
in on Brittney and see that she was OK, it would
calm her down. To her surprise, Brittney was in her
classroom crying for her sister as well. Brittney's
teacher told Janet's teacher that she also had just
started crying out of the blue right before they
came to see her.
The
option of letting them check on each other was left
open for the rest of school year. They did well just
knowing if they needed to check on each other they
could, but did fine without having to do that. They
were little chatterboxes reuniting after school,
though.
