My twin
and I have been separated for the past 25 years and
we just want to be close together again
I have an identical twin, whose name is Tom. I am 3
minutes older, but he's always been about an inch
taller and about 10 pounds heavier, since we we're
teenagers.
We are now 46 years old. Over the years we were
dressed alike until high school. We even looked
quite a bit alike. We were inseparable.
However when we were in our early twenties, he moved
away due to being transferred with Kay Jewelers. I
wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life yet, so
I figured if Tom was happy at Kay Jewelers, then I
would be happy at Kay Jewelers.
I started with them in 1981 on our 22nd B-day (May
26th) Yes we are twins and also Gemini's. But over
the course of the next 10-12 years we were busy
building our careers with Kay's, but that also means
he would be in one state and I would be in another.
In the last 25 years we're lucky if we get to spend
1 week a year together, and there were times when we
would go 2-3 years without seeing each other. I even
met my wife Stephanie, whom I've been married too
for 20 years in of all places a Kay Jewelers store
in Burlington Iowa. She was my boss (and still
is!!!) and I was her assistant manager.
Tom and I are still extremely close in our hearts
but unfortunately we've been 1300 miles apart for
the last 20-25 years. He is in Indiana, while I live
in South Florida. We often think of calling each
other when the phone rings and it's the other
person.
About 4 years ago I created a greeting card for
twins to twins to express the closeness that twins
have. But my problem and my reason for writing to
you is this. I was hoping by starting a greeting
card line for twins we would somehow get back
together and share so many things that we have lost
over the past 25 years.
This has not happened as of yet. I know it sounds
crazy, but I even thought of contacting Oprah and
telling her our story, because I know she has had a
show on twins before.
Please help me and my brother Tom fulfill our dream
of being close together again, by sharing our story.
I'm sure there are many twins who have been
separated by careers, who would desperately what to
be closer together again.
