My favorite story about my twins is
that I didn't even know I was having them
...
My twins are twelve years old, I don't
know the extent of their inner connection
yet, but I do know that they actually enjoy
each other's company very much. My son,
Erik, is the comedian in the family and my
daughter, Katrina, is a more introspective
and dreamy personality, she says that it is
her curse in life to always laugh at Erik's
jokes no matter how lame they may be.
My husband has said that it's like Erik
is living in a cartoon world complete with
prat falls and sound effects. Do know there
is a definite connection between the two of
them but it is almost a synchronistic
relationship in that they go their own way
and come together at times complimenting
each other with their own strengths and
talents. They get along very well but a lot
of that has to do with Katrina's easy going
nature.
He is like fireworks going off, brilliant
and dazzling at times and then on to the
next project. Katrina is persevering and
steady and astonishes us with her
accomplishments over time. I can imagine
them working well together in some sort of
career, Erik the idea man and Katrina
patiently working with his ideas to make it
come together, or maybe not.
My personal favorite story about them is
that I didn't know I was having twins when
they were born. I had a homebirth with
midwives and even though I was abnormally
large we didn't think too much of it because
I was big with my first daughter as well and
this was a second pregnancy after all. I
didn't realize there was another baby in
there until after I had given birth to Erik
and Katrina popped out. She was still in her
amniotic sack with her eyes open. It was
very magical.
As I always like to say, Denial is lovely
place in September. Erik weighed in at nine
pounds six ounces and Katrina at eight
pounds six ounces, so I was really not
wanting to think about the fact I was having
twins. They were amazingly calm babies ....
