At 26 months old, one of my twins had to have
surgery; it was an outpatient procedure that
required her to be put under with anesthesia. After
the surgery the doctor came to the waiting room and
told me she was in recovery, still groggy but I
could see her.
When I entered the room Jillian's tiny body was
lifeless on the big table. She was lying on her
stomach with an IV in her little hand. I went over
and rubbed her back and said “Jillian, Mommy is
here, your operation is over, I love you”.
When she heard my voice she strained to pick her
head off the pillow, peeked open her eyes and said
“Bella” then quickly dropped her head back on the
pillow and closed her eyes.
The nurse looked at me confused, wondering who
“Bella” was. I smiled and told Jillian her twin
(Isabella) was home with Daddy and we could see them
both soon.
It was at that moment that I realized, even in the
subconscious state that Jillian was in; the twin
connection is deeper than any bond we can imagine.
